Fetch aft the rum, Darby!
I’ve walked the planks of the Pirates’ House since I was a small boy. My grandmother was a server at the restaurant and I can remember visits there so vividly I can still imagine the old gasometer that loomed over the building many, many years ago. Savannah is a city surrounded by marsh and sea, steeped in history and soaked in beer as we used to say. With so much to draw upon I find myself time and time again creating work inspired by my hometown’s legends and lore.
These buttons and stickers were styled after an old button offered for sale in the gift shop. I came up with some more slogans just to round things out (round… button… get it? Haha. Yeah) centered around the fun one can have enjoying two Savannah favorites - eating and drinking. One quotes old Captain Flint who, according to legend, died at Savannah in July of 1754.
